Located on Northern Paraná coast, nearby the border with São Paulo state, Superagui Island or Ilha do Superagui, is home to some of the most calm and rustic beaches of the state. With the creation of Superagui National Park in 1989, a total of 33.988 hectares became protected, including   other small islands such as Ilha das Peças, Ilha de Pinheiro, Ilha do Pinheirinho and some contiguous continental areas like the Rio dos Patos and Canal do Varadouro.

It is a region of fundamental importance for sustaining marine life, having salt marshes, mangroves, large areas of deserted beaches, as well as several ecologic trails. It houses endangered species like the mico-leão-da-cara-preta (brown howler monkey ) and the parrot papagaio-de-cara-roxa (red-tailed Amazons), endemic to this region. Other animals that live on the island include the alligator jacaré-de-papo-amarelo, the monkey macaco-sauá, as well as venomous snakes such as jararaca and coral. The vegetation of the island has many species, among them ipês, jacaranda trees, fig, caxetas, orchids and palms.

Its biggest attraction is the Praia Deserta, which has 38 km of untouched beaches that can be enjoyed on walks of 4 to 7 hours, as well as by bicycle. Another activity that is worth watching is the flights of the parrot papagaio-de-cara-roxa, that occurs at dusk and at dawn. It is estimated that more than 2,000 parrots inhabit the island, leaving early morning to search after food and returning to the island at the end of the day. At Ilha das Peças, it is also possible to watch the dolphins swimming and playing at the place called Baía dos Golfinhos (Dolphin´s Bay).

The park is situated at the Guaraqueçaba Environmental Protection Area. Superagui National Park is a core area of the Atlantic Forest World Heritage Site, protected by UNESCO. The access to the island is made by boat from Paranaguá.

As far as gastronomy goes, what predominates are fish and seafood. Shrimp is found in any restaurant on the island. The price is generally inexpensive compared to other places and everything is fresh. There is also a boat ride that takes visitors to eat oysters in Barbados, a small village at the island. Another delicacy of the region is the Cataia, a kind of brandy steeped in a plant from the region. The taste is strong, but worth tasting. Besides the natural beauty, tranquility and cuisine of the island, another important point of it is the culture. For those unfamiliar, the Fandango, typical dance of the region, attracts tourists and locals to bars to dance on holidays. It is a unique opportunity that can only be seen by anyone visiting Paraná´s coast.
