Storytelling: Finnish Jenni and Chinese Wing Yan

Today at the office we welcomed two interns, Wing Yan from Hong Kong and Jenni from Finland. They are here for an internship in two different partner institutions, Wing Yan will be doing an internship in business and Jenni will be working at CIFAL Curitiba.

At our arrival orientation, they shared a bit of their expectations with us!

 

Jenni Eleonem

1) Why did you choose to come to Brazil for an exchange program?

 

I have never been in South America and Brazil seemed like a good place to start exploring.

 

2) What is the main reason you choose to go on exchange?

 

To learn about new cultures, meet new people, get work experience.

 

3) What are your goals with this experience? If we met at the end of your stay, which achievements would you like to tell your friends you had.

 

To become more open minded about different traditions and maybe learn a thing or two at work.

 

4) How do you feel today that you are starting this experience? Can you describe your feelings?

 

Excited to start a life in a new city.

 


 

Wing Yan 

 

1) Why did you choose to come to Brazil for an exchange program?

 

I have always been interested in Latin America and thought Brazil is a vibrant country with strong economic performance to the study of Latin America political economy.

 

2) What is the main reason you choose to go on exchange?

 

I love travelling.Meeting new people always changes my perspective of looking at things and re-charge me for a bndy school of life.

 

3) What are your goals with this experience? If we met at the end of your stay, which achievements would you like to tell your friends you had.

 

Goals:

  • Learn Portuguese;
  • Learn Brazilian political economy;
  • Make meaningful connections here.

 

Achievements that I would like to tell my friends:

  • Went to the Jesus statue in Rio!
  • Learn portuguese!
  • Had some reckless travel stories!

 

4) How do you feel today that you are starting this experience? Can you describe your feelings?
I think I’m optimist and ready for the challenges.The Brazilians I’ve come across so far are really helpful and friendly. But I’m sad that I brought too much formal clothes and not really warm clothes for this freezing weather. I had been a tropical kid all year.
