Although some people might think that Brazil’s capital is either Rio de Janeiro or São Paulo, we cannot blame those ones because, in fact, Brasilia has not always been our country’s capital. Check it out to know more about this spectacular and 100% planned  capital:

 

Lonely Planet has once described our capital as a futuristic capital that remains an impressive monument that remains an impressive monument to national initiative. Brasilia city is located in the Federal District and it is on the central plateau of Brazil. It was inaugurated in 1960, lying between the headwaters of Tocantins, Paraná and São Francisco rivers. The Federal District is the site of Brazil’s legislature, chief courts and ministerial headquarters. Brazil has 26 states and we can say that the Brazilian constitution is highly modeled on that of the USA. Many people may not know, but before Brasilia, Rio de Janeiro was Brazil’s previous capital and many that’s why many people think Rio is the Brazil’s capital.

 

Was in 1956 when the becoming president, Juscelino Kubitschek ordered the constitution of the Distrito Federal in the state of Goiás to have a neutral territory for the government. The president decided to invited the biggest Brazilian architects and urbanist to present their ideas  and projects for this new capital. Oscar Niemeyer, one of the most famous world’s architects, was chose and the planned the city combining straight and sharp shapes to create unique and innovative architectural monuments.

 

Curiosities about Brasilia:

 

– Brasília was one of the host cities of the 2014 Football World Cup and 2013 South American FIFA Confederations Cup.

 

– Brasília will host football tournaments during the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

 

– The shape of the cross map of Brasilia (called the Pilot Plan) is equal to the sacred bird of Egyptian Ibis Brasilia has a peculiar status in Brazil, as it is an administrative division rather than a legal municipality like the cities in the country.

 

– According to a survey conducted by Ibope (Brazilian Institute of Public Opinion and statistic). Brasilia is the city that consumes the most chocolate in Brazil.

 

– The Cathedral of Brasilia, with its challenging lines, has 16 columns and by keeping their underground entrance are statues of four prophets three left and one right.  According to Kabbalistic Judaism, 16 is the number of the temple. (source)
