Brazil from A to Z wine

The country might be more famous for sport but Brazilian wines are a remarkable thing to try in Brazil

Luckily for all the wine lovers, Brazil has a large number of vineyards! Researchers believe that the first vines were introduced in Brazil by the Portuguese colonizers in 1752,  where the activity was merely commercial. Until 1960 the vine activity in the country was limited to South and Southwest areas of the country. After the 60’s decade, the grape became an economic alternative in the tropical areas of Brazil and it gained a whole new dimension in the temperate zone.

Nowadays Brazil produces around 1.300.000 tons in the vines. Rio Grande do Sul, São Paulo, Pernambuco, Paraná, Bahía, Santa Catarina e Minas Gerais are the states the produces the most. Rio Grande do Sul itself is responsible for 95% of the national production of wine.

Our country is the fifth largest wine producer in the Southern hemisphere and it is one of the fastest growing markets in the world.  The Rio Times once wrote an article saying that “Here the 300 days a year of sunshine that shines twelve hours a day mean that harvesting can take place at any time as the vines never stop producing. The wines being produced here are being termed “new latitude” wines, those produced outside the traditional geographical heartlands of wine country.”

Two Brazilian Wines are ranked on the top 10 best wines in the world

It is a demi-sec and light wine, perfect for celebrations and reunions. It goes well with cheesecakes, chocolate fondue, apple pie, cheese lasagna, roquefort cheese and gorgonzola risotto.

French wine specialists described this wine as having “a pleasant sweetness, a good balance of sugar and acidity. It has a final taste that conquers the sense of taste”.
