Curitiba is considered a model of Sustainability and Urban Development in Brazil and also in many places abroad. Its transportation policies, recycling habits and low tech solutions are slowly being recognized around the globe which makes the city an advantageous destination for other countries make partnerships with.
The city aims to work with partners based on the “Triple Helix” form, where the city provides data and suggests the problematic and the International Academy and the place combine synergy to make scientific researches building solutions. Also, the private initiative works with the city and the Academy to reach some of the solutions proposed.

Partnership between Brazilian and Swedish Institutions to promote sustainable urban development in Curitiba
The main purpose of this cooperation between Curitiba and Sweden is to enable the full utilization of the advantages and capacities of each of the parties to maximize the impact and effectiveness of their respective initiatives in promoting sustainable development, and more specifically to ensure coordination of efforts across country borders to build joint innovative projects.
Since 2013 there has been 3 projects between Brazilian and Swedish Institutions to promote sustainable urban development in Curitiba:
– Smart city concepts in Curitiba (2014 – 2016)
– ParCur Project ( 2015 – 2017)
– Project Food Cycle in Curitiba – Projeto Ciclo do Alimento em Curitiba (since 2015)
Partnership among Curitiba, Brazilian and Dutch Institutions to increase the potential for cycling towards a Smart Curitiba
This cooperation through the cooperation between the parties aims to enable the full utilization of the comparative advantages and capacities of Curitiba, Brazilian and Dutch Institutions to increase the potential for cycling towards a Smart Curitiba and to ensure coordination in order to create new projects using urban planning and design as tools for the construction of a Curitiba more resilient.
This project resulted in a joint campaign for University Mobility researches in Curitiba between 2015 and 2016.
Partnership between c40 and Curitiba to reduce meaningfully GHC emissions and climate risks
“C40 is a network of the world’s megacities committed to addressing climate change. Acting both locally and collaboratively, C40 cities are having a meaningful global impact in reducing both greenhouse gas emissions and climate risks.” (source)
This cooperation started in 2014 and it is still in place.
Partnership between Curitiba and Japan
This is the newest agreement of International Relations in Curitiba. The idea is to unite diplomats, rectors and professional interested in Sustainability to present a compile of some of the international cooperation projects developed in Curitiba.
