There is no sincerer love than the love of food.
– George Bernard Shaw
An international dinner with good food from all over the world is what it takes to unite people from different continents.
Last Thursday (21) we organized a multicultural meeting in order to get to know more about different cultures, try different food and be with friends. We gathered our exchange students and friends from Egypt, Spain, Finland, Mexico, USA, Peru and different regions of Brazil to bring cook a dish that is representative of their home countries and we got a delicious variety of unique flavors.
The Mexicans made us torta which is a sandwich filled with meat, tomatoes, mayo and cheesse; the Peruvian Juan brought us taqueños peruanos which is fried dough filled with ham with yellow sauces to dip it in; the Egyptian Ibrahim cooked Kebab Halal, a type beef cooked with herbs and peppers; the Spanish Axl made Gaspacho, a soup made of tomato and other raw veggies that is served cold; the Finnish girls prepared Pannari a pancake with strawberry jam on top and the American Byron brought us mashed potatoes with cheese.
The Brazilians got to bring a large variety of our traditional food. Some of them made caipirinhas with lime, passion fruit, pineapple and mimosas; others brought different cheeses and Romeu e Julieta (cheese with guava jam); pão de queijo, pine nuts, brigadeiros and beijinhos were also representing our country at the international dinner.
Such experience reminds us that although we may come from different cultures, backgrounds, and personal experiences we have a common interest for good food 😀
