Barbados community – Island of Superagui

An intercultural experience that becomes a life-time transformation.

Barbados

The Barbados community is located at the Superagui Island, on the Paraná coastline. In 1991 the Superagui National Park was declared by UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve, and in 1999, the park was also declared as a Natural Heritage. The community can only be reached by private boat. The nautical path from Paranaguá to Barbados lasts about five hours, where one can appreciate the whole scenario of coastal vegetation, mangroves, and the Serra do Mar Atlantic Forest.

Participate in volunteers activities and experiences in a unique ecosystem.

Visitors will be hosted by the local residents so they can learn about the traditional life caiçara, while sharing their culture with the local community.

Itinerary

4 days

14/11 – 06h15: Transfer to Paranaguá, followed by a boat trip to Guaraqueçaba and Superagui. Welcome lunch to meet the community families and plan the service projects together with them. In the afternoon visitors will be involved with a hands-on experience to learn with the local families how they produce handmade flour.

15/11 – Wake up early to get involved in a real life experience, learning with the community members their fishing techniques.

After lunch the group will be divided into small groups to work in the community center. The goal is to rebuild the roof and do a cleanup in the place.

16/11 – Today the group will visit Barra do Superagui, the island´s busiest village.

Let’s take a walk of about two hours to reach the deserted beach, with a length of 38 Km.

Free Afternoon on the beach.

* There is no infrastructure in the deserted beach. Each participant should bring a backpack with snacks, water. Do not forget the sunscreen and a cap!

Afternoon – lunch at Barra de Superagui.

In the evening we will have a special night by the rhythm of fandango, a typical dance of Paraná coast, which mixes singing and tap dancing.

17/11 – Wake up early to watch the sunrise in the middle of the sea and wait for the flock of the Red-tailed amazon, endemic species in the region.

After breakfast we will return to Guaraqueçaba to visit the handcraft cooperative.

Lunch in Guaraqueçaba, transfer to Paranaguá on a boat, followed by bus trip to Curitiba. Arrival in Curitiba at night.

WEATHER: In November the coast of Curitiba typically has high temperatures but it can drop suddenly at night.

WHAT TO BRING: * Water Bottle * Flashlight * Sunscreen * Camera * Sunglasses * Backpack * Coat * Bathing suit * Insect repellent * Cap or Hat * Pants and shorts summer * Swimwear * Shoes for walking (trekking shoes or boots) * Long sleeve shirt (maximum 2) * toiletries (towel, toothpaste, shampoo, soap, etc).

GENERAL CONDITIONS

1. Deadline for confirmation and payment: November 06th – special discount for bookings done by November 1st.

2 . Values for minimum group of 8 and maximum of 20 participants.

3 . The amounts must to be paid in Brazilian currency. Payment should be made in cash.

4 . Schedules described in the script must be respected. The organization reserves the right to change the itinerary or schedule, in the event of unforeseen circumstances or for the benefit of the group. We expect you to be responsible, have team spirit, and be punctual.

5 . Extra expenses: This will depend from each passenger. Extra expenses with additional meals or souvenirs are the traveler responsibility.

6 . Take little luggage. You have to load it and be responsible for it during the whole trip.

7 . Health issues: Prepare yourself before traveling, rest and eat well. If you take medication regularly, plan to bring enough for the trip.

CANCELLATION

In case you need to cancel the trip, there will be the following cancellation terms and penalties: between 9 and 5 days, there will be 40% and less than four days, there will be a 50% penalty. These values are needed to cover the costs of the agency, such as accommodation and transportation.
