Here in Paraná there is a train ride that includes 110 kilometers travelling through the biggest Atlantic Rainforest conservation area and through a track with more than 128 years of history.
Morretes e Antonina
Morretes is a small historic city, home of many historical monuments, on the coast of the Brazilian state of Paraná. Its population is of around 18,000 people.
Antonina is also a small city, near Morretes, with a population of 18 000 people. The city is very famous due its stones and remains and also because of its mangrove and forest. Antonina’s carnival it is known for being the liveliest carnival of Paraná.
Barreado
Barreado, a typical dish from Paraná State, Brazil, is a slow-cooked meat stew prepared in a clay pot whose lid is sealed with a sort of clay made from wheat or cassava flour. The whole cooking process can take around 12 up to 18 hours. Caçhaça is the drink traditionally served with barreado.
Morretes, Antonina and Paranaguá, in Paraná, dispute the title of home of barreado. Morretes natives attribute the origin of barreado to indigenous people, Paranaguá residents say it was created by tropeiros, or donkey caravan tradesmen, and in Antonina it is said the dish was locally created during Carnival, as a hearty food that could be prepared slowly while everyone was partying.

Serra do Mar – The journey will start at the centenary railroad, to admire the beauties of the Serra do Mar (Sea Mountain Range), crossing bridges, viaducts, valleys and tunnels excavated in solid rocks, work and pride of Brazilian engineering.
The train trip takes 3 hours from Curitiba to Morretes train station. Arrival at approximately 11h15am.
Morretes – Reception at the train station of Morretes and continue the trip to the city of Antonina, founded in 1714. We will visit the Historical center, Railway Station (1916), Municipal Theater (1906), Church of N. S. do Pilar (1715), from where we will have a beautiful view of the imposing bay and Antonina.
After that we will return to Morretes for a typical lunch at the margin of Rio Nhundiaquara, where we will eat a barreado, accompanied by seafood. Return to Curitiba through the Estrada da Graciosa (Graceful Road), built in 1873, and located at an area of environmental preservation passing by streams, waterfalls and sightseeing stops, enjoying the landscape.
Arrival in Curitiba: 6 pm. End of the tour.
